It wasn't long before Ernie scrambled out from Luke's hold, holding his bloody nose. "This ain't over Duke!" He yelled as he backed away and his friends released Bo.
Luke said nothing just keeping a hold on Bo's shoulder. "You okay?" he asked, blood trickling down his chin from his split lip.

Bo nodded, a little out of breath, his hair messed up and his shirt torn....and there were bound to be bruises where the older two boys had been struggling to keep hold of the fighting Duke Boy...but yeah he was doing just fine.
"I'm kay..."

Luke just put an arm around him and gave him a half hug. "M'sorry Bo," he said softly. "I didn't mean for you to get hurt," he mumbled his lip preventing him from talking too well.

"S'ok Luke..." Bo replied with a grin...the change in him now the other boys had gone was startling. As quick as the rage had appeared, it had disappeared in almost double the time. "We's a team right?"

Luke nodded tousling Bo's hair a bit. "Right," he answered softly with a slight smile though it hurt him to do so. "Always a team."

Bo just grinned up at him with that little person grin that never ceased to melt even the coldest of hearts. Even Sheriff Rosco couldn't resist giving Bo a pat on the head if Bo smiled at him.
"Yup! An' I'll keep bein' on yer side till the day I die!" he promised, having heard that kind of thing in the western movies he and Luke liked to watch so much when they got the chance and the money.

Luke chuckled a little in spite of himself. "Alright...well s'pose we mosy on back t' the ranch partner?" he asked with his best cowboy drawl.

Bo giggled a little though he wore a confused look on his face, saying with a small shake of his head.
"Luke we don't got a ranch, we's got a farm..."

"Same difference...come on."
With his arm draped across Bo's shoulders the two hurried back to the farm preparing themselves for the lecture about fighting they were sure to get.

Apparently Bo had not forgotten that fact, even to this point in time. Whatever the reason was for fighting, there had to have been a reason he had snuck out to do it, and snuck out he had. It was the only thing that made sense for Bo to have been in bed when Luke went to sleep and then to be in the state he was when Luke was woken.

The only thing that Luke couldn't understand was why. Why would Bo choose to go off by himself like that? Hadn't they agreed long ago to always be a team? What happened that made him choose not to involve Luke? He could have done something... Bo knew better than anyone how good Luke was in a fight...why would he not bring him along?
He swallowed hard the questions digging away at his troubled mind. There would be no sleep for Luke.

While Luke couldn't sleep, Bo had no problem as the painkillers and the drugs keeping his fever at bay plowed him deep into the nightly task. He didn't hardly twitch a muscle during the night that Luke was awake, occasionally sneezing or coughing aside.

Luke, meanwhile, stayed vigil at his cousin's side. Worry would not let him rest, so he just stayed there, sighing softly every so often wondering what happened and wishing he had stopped it.

Throughout the night and into the morning as Bo still didn't stir, Doctors and Nurses came in at different intervals to check on both the young men - Bo more than Luke of course but they also were keeping an eye on Luke as he stayed up all night. The last thing they needed was another patient as full as the hospital was and so, if needs be, they would send him home to get some rest. They let him stay because of the seriousness of the situation but if push came to shove and Luke needed to rest, then they would send him home.

Luke returned every questioning look sent his way with a firm, decided look of his own. He knew what they were thinking and he held Bo's hand even firmer making it very clear that any moving he did would be done with Bo and not without him.
It wasn't anything he hadn't done before...pulling guard duty on no sleep. Only difference was that this time he was guarding Bo.

It wasn't until the late morning of the next day that Bo finally started to stir again, sighing heavily as he dragged his eyes open to be met with the too familiar sight of the white hospital cieling. Too familiar because he had spent way too much time as a child greeted by the same sight so had no desire to repeat the process again.
Swallowing gently he glanced around, feeling much worse than he had done the day before, forcing a smile to his pale face though as he saw Luke still sitting there....clearly having had no sleep.

"Well look who finally decided to wake up," said Luke softly. "How ya feelin'?"
His words sounded calm enough but he was examining his cousin with his eyes, noting any color change, any trouble breathing, anything not quite right...

"M'kay...." he mumbled softly, shifting gently in the bed as he tried to weakly stretch. Swallowing gently, he gave a small cough before asking gently in response. "You ain't slept all night have ya?"

Luke just shrugged. "Wasn't tired..." It was true...he wasn't really tired. Worried out of his mind, yes, but not tired.
"You sure you're alright?"

Bo nodded a little but didn't answer directly, feeling hotter then before and more tired though he didn't really understand why considering he'd only just woke up. He felt sore despite the painkillers from laying still and the bruises settling in...and now he knew that Luke was more than likely worrying about how he'd gotten to this point as it was.

Luke swallowed resting his hand on his forehead frowning. "You're burning up." He pressed the nurse call button, not sure what else to do for him.
The nurse rushed in soon administering something through his IV in the hopes of breaking the fever. Luke meanwhile just pushed back the damp hair from his forehead. He hated feeling so helpless, and the heat radiating from his cousin worried him even more.

Sighing a little, Bo could do nothing but watch as Luke looked more worried and the nurse came in and administered god knew what else into his system. He jumped a little as Luke touched his head again, having been focused on watching the drips coming down the IV tube, looking to him with a small swallow.

Luke just caressed his warm forehead with his thumb. "It's gonna be alright brother..." he said softly trying to sound positive. You'll feel a lot better once they get that fever of yours down." At least, he hoped so.

Bo nodded a little, pushing the bed covers away from his body gingerly. It ached to move around with the bruises he knew were on his body without even seeing them and he was hesitant about revealing them to Luke. Eventually though the heat radiating from his body won out, and he pushed the covers away completly.

Luke stroked his hair continually not seeing the bruises at first, just staring into Bo's eyes trying to reassure him gently. When he finally averted his eyes he pulled his hand away quickly, afraid even that might be hurting him. "Bo! Yer bruised from head t' foot!" he exclaimed, gulping hard.

The younger man didn't respond to that statement, not even looking at Luke as he could feel his cousins horrified gaze assessing all the damage that had been done. It wasn't that bad really...could have been worse...could have done some proper internal damage - of which there was none as far as he knew - could have broken something...ok he had been stabbed but judging by the fact the doctors hadn't put him on any life support machines, he figured that was okay too.
Course he had more sense than to say it could have been worse to Luke. This was bad as far as Luke was concerned. One single solitary bruise on his body, inflicted by someone outside the family was enough for Luke to get concerned. He sure wasn't about to try and reason with him...not when he didn't feel well as it was.

In retrospect he should have known Bo wouldn't tell him anything. The boy was as stubborn as a mule when he chose to be. It angered him to no end that he didn't have all the facts... And even fewer answers. But he bided his time knowing his cousin couldn't keep anything secret for too long. Besides...it was hardly important now. What mattered now was Bo.

Bo kept his eyes averted as Luke still didn't say anything, choosing instead to gaze out the window to the outside world. It got kind of boring in hospital, and short of counting the cieling tiles there was nothing else really to do. He couldn't even really do that properly either seeing as his vision occasionally decided to swim, making everything move.
He wasn't about to start talking about what had happened, he had sworn to himself he wouldn't ever tell Luke about what was going on...though he didn't know whether or not it would be possible to do that. He could tell Luke was frustrated with not knowing what had happened and he also knew as time wore on that Luke would keep getting frustrated until he either forced the truth out of Bo or he went exploring himself. Still, he'd bide his time as long as he could....at least until he could argue his case back against his cousin coherently anyway.

Luke ran a hand through his own dark curls in a vain attempt to calm himself. He knew from experience that if he got upset he would just upset Bo... And he didn't want to do that.
His mind raced a mile a minute not sure if he should call Daisy and worry her or not. He sighed never having felt so very alone and helpless.

"You should go back to the farm and get some sleep...." Bo mumbled from the bed as he finally returned his gaze back to his cousin wearily, knowing before long that he would be asleep anyway and all Luke would do was sit there worrying. Least if he was at the farm he could do chores to calm him down...or actually lay down and sleep.
