(I would prefer to keep original characters only in this story-thanks)
The dark-haired man smiled a little as he snapped up his jean jacket. It was the fall of the year, Luke Duke's favorite time of year, and in keeping with tradition, the Duke family was out together in the farm's pumpkin patch, each selecting the perfect pumpkin for a night of carving, hot apple cider, and Daisy's homemade donuts.
"Hey Bo!" he called teasingly holding up a pumpkin. "Listen!" he thumped the outside of the orange rind, a hallow sound echoing back at him. "This must be your pumpkin...sounds just like your head!"

Bo looked over as Luke called his name. In all honesty he was expecting a jibe like that, it was almost as much a tradition as the pumpkin carving was. The boys would tease each other throughout the day then join forces at night to scare the living daylights out of not only the trick or treaters that knocked on the farm door, but also Daisy....they didn't even think about trying anything on Jesse.
Raising his eyebrows in response to his cousins teasing, he shook his head and picked up a worse for wear looking pumkin.
"Well if that's mine this one's yours! It looks exactly like your head even without the face! Mishapen, ugly, awful t'look at....it could be your twin brother!" he retorted with grin.

"What a funny guy," retorted Luke with a smirk. A crisp October breeze blew through his wavy hair as a flock of wild geese flew in a V over his head, both reminders that winter was near.
"This weather is sure gonna make for a cold hayride...we best get us a couple of fillies t' keep us warm," he suggested, his bright blue eyes twinkling with fun.

Bo grinned at what he took to be a compliment, especially when Luke didn't come back with a jibe of his own. He knew more than likely Luke just couldn't be bothered to come back with anything, but in his head it was a real accomplishment to actually outsmart Luke so he took every oppertunity he could. There were only really a couple of times he had really done it, and Luke had admitted honestly to it.
Glancing up as well as the geese flew over head, he nodded a little with a smile. He actually quite liked the fall and winter times...they contained his favourite holidays...it was colder so girls liked to snuggle with him more...the roads were a lot better to drive on as they presented more challenges...driving with the windows down in the General tended to freeze up your fingers unless you kept them moving in the cold air....which just begged for even more fishtailing and testing out the General's suspension.

While Bo was staring at the sky, Luke was, as always, coming up with a plan. There was a full moon tonight...perfect for spooking his cousins...especially Daisy. The question was what would he do this year? Crickets in the bed were too everyday....and moans in the night were't half as scary as Bo's loud snores. Still, there had to be something...
He would just have to think on it more is all.

Eventually Bo got back to work trying to choose his pumpkin. Really he didn't do the carving anyway, he got bored too eaisly. Unless he was doing something he really loved, he didn't really have the attention span and concetration his older cousin did. He was way too active to be able to sit still and take time in doing something as intricate as pumpkin carving...he only ended up putting the innards of the pumpkin down Luke's shirt when he was trying to carve anyway.

Luke hummed to himself as he wandered the field. It always took him the longest to pick out his pumpkin....the perfectionist in him, he supposed....and it always took him the longest to carve it. Where Bo would be done in 5 minutes, Luke often worked on it 5 hours or more. He found it restful, being able to focus his attention and mind on just one thing, instead of multitasking as he usually did. Sometimes he just needed a break...

Eventually Bo got tired of the pumpkin hunting game, much as he had done when he was little and would instead choose to jump on Luke's back and insist on a piggy back ride....doing that now though would more than likely result in Luke falling down. Not because Luke wasn't strong enough to hold him but because the weight now would be too much of a surprise on him...though he had to admit he was chuckling a little at the thought of doing it.

Luke glanced over at him. "What's so funny little boy?" asked Luke pointedly. The expression was one he had used with Bo when they were younger; when Bo was still little compared with Luke. That had all changed since he came back from Nam, and Bo now towered over Luke by several inches, but the term stuck still.

"Nothin'...."
Bo replied as innocently back as he would have done back then, going back to look at the pumpkins again. His mind was made up now with the little boy reference...he felt like a little kid again...and it wasn't very often he was allowed to enjoy the feeling before he had to go and do grown up stuff....chores, running from the law...trying to save the farm...clear the Duke name. It was tiring being a grown up sometimes.

"Uhu...I bet..." he knew something was up. Luke Duke noticed everything...and now he noticed the look of innocense on Bo's face and the mischivious smile in his eyes. He knew he'd better prepare himself for something but what that something was he hadn't a clue.

Bo continued on his rounds, starting to whistle and then to sing to himself to restore the peace. He could practically feel Luke's eyes on him, watching his every move...he had to restore the calm if he was going to be able to surprise Luke like he wanted to.
Sometimes he hated that, how hard it was to surprise his older cousin. It was a challenge sure, and sometimes a fun challenge...but trying to organize surprise birthday's or surprise presents was a nightmare. Luke always seemed to know. That's why no one had been able to scare Luke on Halloween since he came back from the Marines.

Luke shook his head picking up a large pumpkin with a long stem. He held it up, dusting it off and surveying every inch of it, thinking he may at last have found his pumpkin. He carefully cut it from the vine, setting it in a pile of dead leaves at the field's edge.

At that Bo took his cue. Luke was distracted with finding perfection in his pumpkin and what was more was his back was turned to Bo. Grinning a little, he crept forward - ensuring Luke was well away from the danger of falling on his pumpkin, before taking a running leap and jumping on his back.
"Happy Halloween!!"

Luke had seen his shadow looming over him, but his heart still jumped when he felt his tall cousin's weight on his back. He couldn't hold him with a surprise attack like that though, and both fell tumbling head first into the pile of golden, red and brown leaves that had been raked nearby. "Umph...Bo...I'm gonna kill you!!!"

Nothing came back at Luke but a flurry of giggles and leaves been thrown up into the air. Bo couldn't help it, he was past the point of no return now. Suddenly things were back like when they were kids, they were mucking around in a pile of leaves together, just laughing happily under the blue fall sky.

Luke too, for that brief moment in time, lost the serious look he wore and tackled Bo readily. It had been a long time since they wrestled together. Too damn long. He took Bo's head and introduced it to the leaves...."Always thought yellow was a good fall color...look how good ya blend!"

Bo gasped a little as Luke tackled him for a moment, the unexpected action having knocked the wind out of him. He soon recovered though and was quick to come back with one of his favourite insults...the jealousy card. Luke could deny jealousy all he liked, but the wonderful thing about was no one could ever really tell whether you were or not.
"Awww cousin, you gettin' jealous again cause yer hair just don't go with anything? I'm sorry you can't camoflague anymore...maybe one day you'll get lucky and a blue plaid tree with black leaves'll grow around here someplace..." he said with a cheeky grin.

Luke laughed at that. "If it ever does, I'm gonna sit in it 'til just the right moment....then watch out...all of Maudine'smuck all over ya...then there'll be a reason t smell like ya always do!"

Bo frowned, shaking his head and sitting up a little more.
"What on earth makes ya think i'd wanna go anywhere near a blue plaid tree? I have to see it on you all day, I have to see it hangin in our wadrobe when I get up and go t'bed...I have t'see it hangin' on the line....if anythin' it'd drive me further away from it..."

"That's 'cuz ya got no taste, cousin..." he teased, tousling Bo's blond curls. He loved the friendly banter between them. It made things not so serious all the time...a refuge for a mind that never stopped spinning.

Bo in return reached up pulled Luke down into the leaves, quickly tossing as many over him as he could with great armfuls before taking off at a run.

"Why you little...." he yelled, jumping up and taking off after his cousin, hurdling pumpkins and dodging through corn stalks. "I'm gonna getcha for that Bo!"

Bo laughed and shook his head as he continued running, knowing that Luke was bar far the faster runner and that sooner or later he would be caught....still having long legs gave him a slight advantage in that when he took steps they were bigger ones than Luke's. Hurdling over a fence, he ran round the back of the house.

Luke was known for his shortcuts, however- a fact that Bo should have remembered. After hurdling the fence he shimmied up to the low roof of the farm house, watching Bo run around and stop at the corner to see if there was any sign of Luke. The older Duke wasted no time and jumped siently behind him, so quietly that Bo didn't even hear him.
"Gotcha!" he yelled grabbing him from behind.

To say that Bo jumped a mile was an understatement, it was a wonder he didn't actually leap out of the hold Luke had on him. Yelling in surprise, he struggled a little in Luke's hold - something Luke misconstruded as an act of trying to escape....what Luke had failed to see though was that Bo had the hose....and it was running at a slow trickle for the moment.
When Bo flailed his legs, and Luke picked him up to accomodate it, Bo succesfully managed to flick the end of the hose over his shoulder and kick the tap into full gear.....sending a jet of water spraying straight into Luke's face.

"Agh" yelled Luke, or something to that effect. He sputtered the water from hismouth as he clobbered Bo to the ground and wrestled with him for the hose.

Bo however was having none of it, laughing at Luke's spluttering and keeping tight hold of they hose as they wrestled, spraying Luke in the face whenever he got the oppertunity. Eventually though he really managed to hit his target and managed to shove Luke off him as he put the hose down the back of Luke's shirt.
Getting up he laughed as he could see the water shooting out from sleeves and the bottom of his shirt, shaking his head as he was careful to slowly back away.
"Awww Luke you make a pretty water feature....we need t'get a pond an' stand you in it!"

Luke was soaking wet, his plaid shirt sticking to him by the time he retrieved the hose turning it off. "Cute Bo....real cute..." He gave him a playful slap on his wet head.

Bo chuckled, shaking his head after Luke had slapped it. He enjoyed this playfulness between them...there weren't many occasions nowadays that they got to exercise their rights to torment each other like brother's should. Every oppertunity they got to take it, therefore, would always go over the top and things like this happened.
Smiling, he replaced the hose carefully, saying with a chuckle.
"Well least now you don't got to have a shower..."
