Bo couldn't help but laugh at their faces, then shake his head as he chuckled more at the excuses they started to come up with for him not having a date. Rolling his eyes, he folded his arms to wait until they had stopped chattering before continuing on.
"As I was saying, I just didn't ask no one. An' no, no one asked me first or anythin' like that...simple fact is I ain't got a date for the hay-ride. I dunno who the McCracken sisters are goin' with, I ain't spoke t'em properly in about a week or so 'cept for sayin; hi on the street..."

"Wow," answered Luke. "Well least ya ain't alone...I ain't got a date neither." He waited for the shocked looks on their faces, shrugging in response. "Nothin' wrong with goin' alone, right?"

"O'course there ain't nothin' wrong with it Luke." Daisy was stunned neither of her cousins had dates for the hayride. On the rare occasion that any of them did go to something alone it was almost a sure thing that they wouldn't be coming home alone.

Luke didn't want to go into detail about why he suddennly didn't have a date....and he hoped they wouldn't ask. He simply nodded and, as he had a tendancy to do when anything got too uncomfortable, changed the subject once more.
"Cider's real good Daisy." he commented rendering himself speechless as he drank from his mug, a convenient way to make it so he wouldn't have to answer questions.

"Course there ain't nothin' wrong with it..." As always, Bo knew when Luke was changing the subject and as always, he wouldn't let it go. "S'long as people don't think me an' you are goin' together Luke..." he said with a teasing grin to his older cousin, knowing that Luke was feeling a might uncomfortable on the subject.
"I many not have a date right now...but come the end of the night I might..."
Truth was, he was sweet on this one particular girl...one girl who sent shivers up his spine like no other girl had been able to, one girl who for once didn't throw herself at Bo's feet and instead acted like a friend to him. Problem was she had a boyfriend, who everyone knew was a jerk but her apparently. He had tried to tell her so, tried to tell her that he wanted her instead...but all she had come back with was that she didn't wanna be just another notch in his belt. If he could find a way to prove that there was more to it than that in her case....then maybe she would consider it.
And so, that was how he got to the point of not having a date. He wanted to prove it so much, he kept himself free that night. With any luck she would notice...and with any luck, he could get her to be at his side instead.
Not that he would ever reveal that to his cousins, oh no. Especially not Luke. It seemed everytime there was a girl Bo liked, Luke instantly took a disliking to them, and soon would be insisting they were nothing but trouble. Ok so he had been right about the twins...she was out to cause trouble. But Diane....Diane hadn't done anything wrong. It was Carl that had caused all the trouble. By the time Diane left, he knew that she loved him...but he also understood the need to carry on the family buisness...to do what you loved without being tied down too young. That was why he had let her go and not fought so hard to keep her in Hazzard.
But Luke....Luke was convinced that she was just out to break his heart. That Diane was out of his league...since then he had never really confided to Luke that he loved a girl more than for just one night...

Luke smirked at that, not really surprised that Bo would say something like that. "I love ya Bo...but you're just not my type..."
He sipped his cider reflectively. Truth was, except during banter like this, he never told Bo he loved him for more reason...it wasn't that he didn't...everyone in Hazzard knew how close the two were...it was more the fact that Luke had a hard time saying "I love you" to anyone... it was for this reason that Luke was dateless...he didn't ever tell the girls he dated that he loved them...he didn't...and the one girl he had loved, he had lost.

"Thanks Luke" Daisy said sipping her own cider listening to the boys banter. She knew deep down there was reasons her cousin's didn't have dates other than what the conclusion by many would be 'just that they couldn't find any'. Curiosity did make her wonder though why neither of them had a date, sometimes they would confide things in her but she suspected this would not be one of those times.
Leaning back in Uncle Jesse's chair Daisy stared off into space in her own thoughts about her and Jimmy Rawlin's at the hayride.

Bo chuckled at Luke's response, stretching lightly before hauling himself off the couch and going to the fridge to find something to eat, something he could snack on before dinner. As he passed the cookie jar, he couldn't help but pluck one from its depths with a grin, giving a whistle to Luke as he took another one and tossed it to his older cousin.
Opening the refridgerator door, he took a look inside to see what else he could eat as he got out the milk to have a drink.

Luke caught the cookie in mid-taking a bite. "They's good Daisy..." he offered before following Bo into the kitchen. There was something about being outside on a brisk fall day that made you hungry, no matter who you were... and the Duke boys were no exception.
"Hey Bo...s'there any coffee left?"
That was teh weakness of the whole family. Good strong black coffee. The pot was always on for that reason-that and the fact that their aunt had always left it on...just in case someone came by in need of friendly conversation and a warm drink.

"I ain't sure, I ain't looked recently..." Bo replied from the depths of the refridgerator, finally pulling out some cold meat to put in a sandwich, carrying it over to the table as he kicked the door shut gently. Getting the bread, he checked the coffee pot on the way past, nodding a little.
"There's a bit in there but you might wanna make some more..."

Luke nodded, glad for something to do. He poured the remainder of the coffee into the cup he pulled out smiling a little. It was the cup Bo had made for Luke when he was in school. Granted Luke hadn't developed a taste for coffee yet, but at the time it didn't matter... Bo just had wanted to give Luke a gift....

Daisy followed her cousin's to the kitchen but she didn't stick around for a snack or coffee there was chores to be done before the hayride tonight. "Bo don't fill up before dinner" she admonished the youngest just as her aunt had when she had still been with them. It wasn't that Bo could be filled up that easily he nor Luke either one could be but being the woman of the house she felt motherly toward Bo at time which tended to get under his skin when he thought she was being too over protective.

Bo chuckled, shaking his head as he swallowed the mouthful of sandwich he had been chewing on, repling with a smirk.
"Daisy, save yer lectures fer yer kids in the future okay?" he teased gently, continuing after. "I won't get full with a sandwich, I just need somethin t'get me through workin the outside chores. Unlike you I have to lift somethin heavier than a duster..."
He continued to tease, not being nasty, that was just the kind of banter he had with Daisy. If he wasn't irritated by the mothering she did, he just teased her about it. It was only when he wasn't in the mood to be so molly-coddled that he would call her on it.

Luke just listened to the banter, chewing placidly on his cookie. Sometimes he just enjoyed being a spectator rather than an active player...and this was one of those times.
The quiet rumble in his stomach reminded him that he hadn't eaten much the night before and, with the knowledge that Daisy would start lecturing him too, went to the refridgerator and pulled out a slice of cold ham, putting it between two slices of bread and eating it. It, like most things in his life, was simple and functional.

Daisy gave Bo a gentle cuff upside the head and a scowl for his teasing. "The duster ain't heavy but I would get more done if I didn't have to go behind you and pick up your dirty clothes to wash." It actually wasn't often that she did this, both boys put their laundry in the hamper or at least got the clothes to the floor in front of it. They had learned long ago if they wanted clean ones they had better get close to the hamper because not making it had resulted in no clean shorts a time or two.
It hadn't passed by Daisy the night before that Luke hadn't ate much the night before and she was just about to ask if he was getting sick when he went to the fridge taking out a slice of ham, making himself a sandwich. Satisfied that Luke was eating she continued on out the door to hang up the wash somewhat reluctant to end the banter between them. She like the boys enjoyed these times when they would tease one another proving to all that knew them how close they really were.

It wasn't long before Bo had polished off the sandwich and the glass of milk, tidying away the things he had used. As much work as he and Luke had to do outside, he knew that they too had a responsibility to keep the house as clean as they could on their part so Daisy had less to do. As the only person bringing in any money, holding down a job, Daisy was already doing more than her fair share as it was.
Patting Luke on the shoulder, he headed outside to get to the chores that needed doing.

Luke nodded, finishing his sandwich in one large bite, gulping down his own drink. "Was good Dais, thanks," he said giving her a sloppy peck on the cheek as he too cleaned up his cup. He then followed Bo outside, giving Daisy's side a playful tickle as he left.

After hanging out the laundry, Daisy finished up dinner and set the table. "Bo, Luke, Uncle Jesse dinner's ready" she called the three men of the house. Daisy was getting more excited about the hayride by the minute she couldn't wait to go.
